"the Ent"

2017, Frederick, MD

Stoneware sculpture 16.5" x 12" x 8.5"

The word, Ent, is derived from the Angelo Saxon word for giant. As introduced by J.R. R. Tolkien in “the Lord of the Rings”, Ents, are a race of beings in “Middle-earth”. They are caretakers, ancient shepherds of the forest who's job it is to guard and defend the trees. They share many characteristics of trees. Ents are patient and cautious, with a sense of time more suited to trees than to humans.

They grow more treelike as they age.
